Independent, Phaidon, and Artspace are pleased to announce a new edition of 36 hand-colored lithographs by New York-based artist Jameson Green, to be released on May 11, 2023. With three variable editions of 12, each edition includes generous hand-finishes by the artist in three different colorways. Altogether, the edition probes a range of historical references, a striking color palette, and an acknowledgment of social injustices, all of which have come to define Green’s visual language.
Green’s limited edition marks the inaugural release of a new artists edition program, a collaborative initiative between Independent, Phaidon, and Artspace, and Independent. The commission celebrates a significant relationship between the artist and Independent, where Green’s solo presentation with Derek Eller Gallery was received with critical acclaim in 2021. The editions will be on view at Independent Art Fair in New York from May 11-14, and online on Independent’s new digital platform.
Acutely aware of both the art historical canon and consciousness of history, Green is known for engendering his work with an altogether distinct voice. His practice engages the legacies of Philip Guston’s compositions, Vincent Van Gogh’s color palette, Pablo Picasso’s figures, and Francisco Goya’s power, among other intuitive influences, in critical and often confrontational dialogue.

Several major institutions have acquired Green’s work, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, and the Pérez Museum of Art. A new series of the artist’s work is on view at Derek Eller Gallery in New York concurrently with the Independent Art Fair, April 26 – May 27, 2023.
About Jameson Green
Jameson Green’s (b. 1992) psychological parables are rendered in a visual language that is steeped in the grandeur of art history, inflected with comics and illustration, and filtered through a highly introspective lens. References to Goya and Picasso are also notable in many of Green's pieces. His works often bring in aspects dealing with social and political injustice, human struggle, freedom, and the eternal connection of life and death are often portrayed through crowded and narrative-rich scenes.
Green has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Almine Rech, Derek Eller Gallery, and Sorry We’re Closed. His work is in the public collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, Florida, and the Pérez Museum of Art, Miami, Florida. He received an MFA from CUNY Hunter College (2019) and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (2014). Green is represented by Derek Eller Gallery and Almine Rech. The artist lives and works in Bronx, NY.
