Introducing Independent Bureau

Independent Bureau is an invite-only, complimentary press room for arts writers, dedicated to providing a forward diary of the most interesting exhibitions opening each season. The password-protected platform and wire service provides journalists and critics with an aggregated and editorially selected preview of gallery shows, before they are available on gallery websites or social media.

The service was designed in consultation with more than two dozen journalists to provide a platform centered around art and ideas, and foster more diverse engagement with mainstream media.

“With Independent Bureau,” says New York magazine’s senior art critic Jerry Saltz, the fair “continues to find new ways to support artists and focus arts writers on New York exhibitions while remaining a force for good in dicey times.” Arts journalist Julia Halperin says. “The art world's sprawl and fragmentation is part of what I love most about it. But when I'm trying to figure out what galleries have coming up—especially those without large PR firms behind them—it's also a challenge. Independent Bureau has done an admirable job at closing that gap.”

Every week, Independent Bureau pushes a roster of forthcoming, noteworthy, and trending stories on shows to our private members. Since launching in 2024, the private news service has gained more than 400 subscribers, reached more than 100 media outlets and resulted in over 400 pieces of press coverage. In December 2025, Independent Bureau expanded our coverage to include galleries and exhibitions in London and Los Angeles, and our newsletters are now received by an international network of writers.

Independent Bureau is available as a complimentary service for arts journalists and by annual membership for galleries and non-profits. Click here to join or learn more.
