FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Wednesday October 26, 2021. Independent is pleased to announce plans for its 13th year. The fair will return to its former location with new spring dates May 5 – 8, 2022 at Spring Studios in Tribeca. Independent in May will be an opportunity for the fair to expand to its full roster of 65 international leading galleries.
Independent has also appointed Sofie Scheerlinck as interim Chief Operating Officer. Scheerlinck previously was the Global Managing Director at TEFAF, and has held various roles in the art tech space since 2014. Scheerlinck will oversee the strategy of both the fair’s expansion and online offering for next year, in collaboration with co-founder Elizabeth Dee, founding curatorial advisor Matthew Higgs and the Independent team. With a focus on the digital possibilities of furthering an exhibition’s reach and prolonging relevant conversations, Independent’s media initiatives will scale and continue to be a quality resource during the fair and throughout the year.
