About the Gallery
Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is a contemporary art gallery in Chelsea. Founded in 1991 by Brent Sikkema as Wooster Gardens, the gallery was originally located in SoHo. In 1999 the gallery moved to its present location, which later underwent extensive renovation and expansion. The program includes important established artists such as Tony Feher, Arturo Herrera, Sheila Hicks, Vik Muniz, and Kara Walker, as well as emerging talents like Josephine Halvorson, Marc Handelman, and Erin Shirreff. Aside from its represented artists, the gallery collaborates directly on exhibitions and projects with other artists. Brent Sikkema began his gallery work in 1971 as Director of Exhibitions at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York, and opened his first gallery in 1976 in Boston. Michael Jenkins became a partner in the gallery in 2003, having joined the gallery as a director in 1996 after working on several projects with the gallery since it first opened.

Tony Feher, who died of cancer last June at age sixty, was a master of an uplifting type of abject sculpture and installation employing mundane found objects and industrial materials.
“As you’re going through, just stay loose, and digest,” Leonardo Drew tells visitors who approach him at Sikkema Jenkins & Co., where his work is currently on display.
