About the Gallery
SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER is a continuation and expansion of Galerie Brigitte Schenk, founded by Brigitte Schenk, the mother of gallery director Joana Weitzdörfer. Since taking over the gallery in September 2025, Weitzdörfer has established SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER as a bridge between past and future, with selected artists from Galerie Brigitte Schenk naturally continuing as part of the new program. The gallery’s focus lies on contemporary emerging artists working with media that have so far received limited attention within the art scene. SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER is dedicated to fostering these artistic positions and to paving the way for such media to become an integral part of art history. In line with this concept, SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER features a solo presentation by German ceramic artist Keiyona C. Stumpf at Independent—marking both the gallery’s and the artist’s debut at the fair.

About the Presentation
Keiyona Stumpf will make her New York debut in a solo presentation with SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER, a first-time exhibitor at Independent. Stumpf engages deeply in her artistic work with the complexity and multilayered nature of beauty—beyond conventional aesthetic categories. Her sculptures unfold a subversive sensuality that is both seductive and provocative. The organically shaped forms evoke strange natural creatures, exotic plants, or deep-sea animals, creating a world that oscillates between reality and fantasy. In this encounter, a poetic, emotional, and intellectual space opens up for the viewer, one marked not by clarity but by ambiguity. Beauty here does not present itself as a harmonious ideal, but as a vital, contradictory, and challenging force. Stumpf deliberately plays with this tension, which oscillates between aesthetic allure and potential danger.
