About the Gallery
Founded by Ales Ortuzar in 2018, Ortuzar is a New York gallery dedicated to representing artists who play a significant role in the development of twentieth and twenty-first century art.

Through well researched exhibitions, global institutional placement, and market leadership, the gallery advances the careers and legacies of artists and estates.

The gallery is active in the secondary market, for represented artists as well as works of historical significance.

Working with clients to build and maintain exemplary collections is central to this pursuit. In addition to our core program, our project exhibitions are a testament to our ongoing commitment to reshaping art historical narratives.

About the Presentation
Ortuzar will present work by Mary Grigoriadis in a solo presentation at Independent 20th Century. In the 1970s and 80s, Mary Grigoriadis (b. 1942, Jersey City, NJ) was active in both the Pattern and Decoration group and as a founding member of the women’s cooperative gallery A.I.R.. Meticulously rendered in oil paint on raw linen, her paintings from this period feature saturated color, structured form, and sumptuous surfaces. They reflect a deep engagement with ornamental traditions across cultures, which Grigoriadis repositions within the cultural context of modern abstraction—asserting the decorative as a site of feminist agency and aesthetic innovation.
