About the Gallery
Founded in 2023, Jeremy Scholar is a London-based gallery specialising in Post-War and Contemporary art. Situated in Marylebone, the gallery is committed to presenting thoughtful, tightly curated exhibitions that highlight artists who have been historically overlooked or underrepresented in the UK.With a focus on amplifying voices that deserve wider recognition, Jeremy Scholar collaborates with both historical and contemporary artists, fostering critical dialogue across generations and artistic practices.

About the Presentation
Jeremy Scholar will present work by The Florida Highwaymen in a group presentation at Independent 20th Century. The Florida Highwaymen were a group of twenty-six African American artists who began making and selling paintings at the end of the 1950s through the 1980s. Working against the segregated conditions of the South, this largely untrained collective utilized intuitive and en plein air techniques to accomplish bright and vivid compositions that represent the Sunshine State’s geography. The forthcoming presentation at Independent 20th Century provides the opportunity to recover and reframe this work in both contemporary and historical contexts, especially within the canon of American landscape painting.
