About the Gallery
Since its creation in Nancy 35 years ago (Hervé Bize was 22), the gallery has pioneered contemporary art in the East of France. Its activity is shared between two poles: one linked to its geographical position, close to the Centre Pompidou-Metz and equidistant from Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt and Basel, and the other in New York where continuous projects have been developed since 2007.

The gallery constantly draws attention to multi-generational artists in order to build a dialogue between processes created in different places and at different moments in the history of contemporary art, but which, through the choice of varied media, find common grounds of approach and experimentation.

Over the past 15 years, Hervé Bize presented exhibitions, solo or thematic, at international art fairs such as The Armory Show, New York; Art Basel, Basel; Frieze New York; FIAC, Paris; Art Los Angeles Contemporary, Los Angeles; Paris Internationale; Independent New York, Independent 20th Century, Independent Brussels; Art Genève; Zona Maco, Mexico; Drawing Now, Paris.

Hervé Bize has established a field of expertise that allows him to write and publish articles, books and catalogues on a regular basis. He is also a curator and last year he conceived the exhibition  André Cadere, Expanding Art for the Fondation CAB in Brussels.

About the presentation
Galerie Hervé Bize returns to Independent with a solo presentation by Delia Brown, especially conceived for the fair. The Los Angeles-based artist’s new series of paintings is titled Jai Ma, a Sanskrit mantra meaning victory or praise to the divine mother. These works function as portraits depicting individual incarnations of the mother, but also they ask us to see the deeper reality beyond each personality and physical form. The multiplicity of styles and ways she manifests herself will be reflected in the diversity of the women represented in Brown’s portraits.
