About the Gallery
F Magazine was founded in 2014 as a biannual thematic publication by Adam Marnie and Tuomas Korpijaakko, expanding to include artist books in print, PDFs, and artist editions. Since 2019, Marnie has operated F as a gallery out of his home in Houston, presenting solo and group exhibitions by emerging and under-recognized artists.
About the Presentation
Matt Kenny (b. 1979, Kansas City, MO) lives in New York. For the last two decades, Kenny has rigorously pursued the iconoclastic, often irreverent, universe of images that populate his methodically produced paintings and drawings. His works, which employ humor and banality in equal measure, explore the intersection of poetry and politics through various ongoing tropes: New Jersey wasteland-landscapes, faithful oil reproductions of paintings by masters such as Courbet and Goya, and his monster paintings: painstaking New York City-scapes inhabited by the World Trade Tower as cartoon monster.
At Independent, Kenny presents a new body of work, one which thematically takes on the eyes as windows of the mind, in scenes directed both outward onto the world and inward into the cave of his unconscious, plumbing the depths of his overactive imagination.
