About the Gallery
EUROPA is a contemporary art gallery located at the threshold of the Lower East Side and Chinatown neighborhoods. The gallery emphasizes emergent art and authentic visual voices. We prioritize nurturing our community and continue to explore the crossover of art and music as we host dinners, poetry readings, and live performances within our space. EUROPA opened in 2022 after five years as Safe Gallery in Brooklyn.

About the Presentation
EUROPA will present work by Thomas McDonell in a solo presentation at Independent. The immersive installation of sculpture and painting further explores his key tenets of art-making: considering the innate impulse of the creative act and how it's mediated, and a process of using found materials. McDonell's latest work contends with the persistence with which society surges toward the technological and considers what it would mean to steer in other directions. The sculptures and paintings are made from daily newspapers and detritus from a disused drapery factory in Los Angeles.
