About the Gallery
Abattoir is a space for contemporary art in the historic Hildebrandt Building, a former meat processing plant in the resurgent Clark-Fulton neighborhood of Cleveland, located between the West 25th Street corridor and Ohio City. The gallery was launched in 2020 by Lisa Kurzner and Rose Burlingham. It presents a program of local, regional, and national artists, designed to elicit thought-provoking conversation and discussion.

About the Presentation
Abattoir will present work by Eleanor Conover in a solo presentation, marking Conover’s New York debut. Conover's work engages with the physical and material conditions of painting as a metaphor for environmental time and space. Over the past few years, she has developed shaped canvases evocative at once of topography and the body, irregular forms which protrude slightly off the wall. Her performative landscapes move from outdoors to interior spaces, embrace and respond to land artists of past generations, while exploring the gendered landscape through abstraction. Conover’s sophisticated works exemplify a new current of abstraction of the present moment.
